Thy Kingdom Come - Week 2

This message takes us into a powerful exploration of identity through the lens of a familiar biblical encounter about taxes. When Jesus was asked whether it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, His response went far deeper than a simple yes or no. By pointing to Caesar's image on the coin, Jesus revealed a profound truth: just as the coin bears Caesar's image and therefore belongs to Caesar, we bear God's image and therefore belong to God. This isn't just about civic duty or financial obligations. It's about understanding the multiple layers of identity we carry as citizens, family members, professionals, and members of various communities. The real question becomes: which identity takes priority? We live in a world where our loyalties are constantly divided between politics, nationality, culture, sports teams, social causes, and countless other allegiances. The danger lies in either dividing our identity—becoming different people in different settings—or distorting our identity by filtering Jesus through our other commitments rather than filtering everything else through Jesus. An ordered identity means that following Christ comes first, and everything else flows from that center. This doesn't erase our other roles and relationships, but it does establish a clear hierarchy. When we truly grasp that we are stamped with God's image and inscription, our lives begin to reflect His character in our associations, our mission, our words, and our consistency. The call is to give to God what is God's, which is nothing less than our whole selves.
