Joshua - Week 4

The story of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho confronts us with a challenging truth: obedience doesn't always come with complete understanding. When we examine this familiar account, we discover it's far more than a children's story about walls falling down. It's a profound lesson about faith in action. God's instructions to march around Jericho thirteen times seemed ridiculous from a military standpoint, yet the Israelites obeyed anyway. This narrative challenges three common responses we have to God's commands: refusing to start because it seems foolish, questioning endlessly to find loopholes, or beginning well but abandoning obedience when we think we've outgrown basic spiritual disciplines. The reality is that Christian maturity isn't about graduating from simple obedience to God's word. Whether it's reading Scripture daily, practicing financial stewardship, maintaining sexual purity, or forgiving those who hurt us, these aren't elementary lessons we leave behind. They're foundational truths we grow deeper into throughout our lives. The Israelites didn't understand how walking around a city would bring down its walls, but understanding came through obedience, not before it. Sometimes God gives us enough instruction for the next step, not a complete blueprint for the entire journey.
