Cycles of Redemption - Week 5

What if the darkest chapters of our lives are not signs that God has stepped away, but rather the very backdrop against which his faithfulness becomes most visible? The book of Ruth opens with a phrase that is easy to skim past: “During the time of the judges.” Those few words carry enormous weight. They place an ordinary grieving family inside one of the most chaotic, violent, and spiritually confused periods in Israel's history. Naomi loses her husband and both sons within a handful of verses. Three widows stand in the wreckage with no clear path forward. And yet this is precisely where a story of loyalty, redemption, and quiet divine providence begins to unfold. The central lesson is both sobering and deeply hopeful: darkness may describe our days, but it does not determine what God will do in them. Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz could not choose the era they were born into, but they could choose how they lived within it. Their faithfulness, compassion, and loyalty were not products of easy circumstances. They were lights burning inside a very dark room. We are invited to consider our own seasons of hardship through this same lens, trusting that what obscures our vision never obscures God's.
